Fernando Alonso has given his strongest hint yet that he is interested in returning to Formula 1 – potentially in 2021 for the rules overhaul of the sport.
Alonso is back from the paddock in the GP this weekend before stepping out from a race seat at the end of last season in his role as an ambassador for McLaren, who he last drove for in F1.
The Spaniard has competed in several other motorsport classes, winning the World Endurance Championship in June and creating another attempt at the Indy 500. He’s presently examining in the Dakar Rally in January in preparation for a introduction.
However, the speculation of a racing yield to F1 is not far from your former world champion.
And requested by Sky Sports F1’s Rachel Brookes if his plan was to go back to the world championship a day, Alonso responded: »Maybe. »

Pressed on whether he’d wish to go back a year ago, Alonso added: »Let us see. I want to figure out a couple of challenges out of Formula 1 that I need to complete. They are not yet completed, like some other stuff and the Indy 500.
« 2021 using all the new regulations, I personally think it is a fantastic mix which we can find there and perhaps a distinct Formula 1 in that which we find today.
« The reasons why I abandoned Formula 1 last year are still existing now with domination on a clear team along with the races that a little bit too predictable, however 2021 these things can be changed and maybe it’s a good opportunity there. »
Asked when he was speaking to any groups, a smiling Alonso responded: »Always. »
2006 world champion and the 2005 is regarded as one the very talented drivers of all time, even though it remains difficult to see where Alonso could reunite in future.
The Spaniard also confessed the move to a 22-race calendar from next season would be something.
« 22 races is nonstop, it’s rather demanding. Let us see – I’m getting old! » Additional Alonso, who’ll be 39 years old by the beginning of 2021.
